6 Months already!!!

So Nathan is now 6 months old! We have gone through much these past few weeks leading up this important milestone. He hit his growth spurt early and kept us up a night wanting more food. We started eating baby rice cereal and now have tried carrots, butternut squash and now avocado. And we aren't far from his bottom teeth breaking through.
Went to the doctor for a check up and shots Monday. His stats were surprising to me and James, we thought he was much taller - but he is doing well according to the doctor and that is ok with us.

Weight - 17lb 4oz, Ht - 27" Head - 43cm
New car seat!

Loves the camera, and being outside

First taste of carrot!

Why carrots? Well, they say its a good vegetable to start since its sweet, and its loaded with vitamins, especially for good vision. As blind as his momma is I want to do everything I  can to help him have better eyes! And lastly, we had them!
So I opened up my Christmas present - a baby puree "cookbook" and selected the carrot puree recipe. I mixed it with some of his rice cereal and we tried it. It tasted just like oatmeal with a hint of carrot.

So Nathan's no Bugs Bunny, he didn't wolf down the carrots like he did the rice cereal the first time. I think he did really well though and tried his best to eat them. :-) I do have to mention though that we have to tie him down less when we feed him. I just sit him in his super seat on the table and he does really well!
Tonight I am going to try just the carrot puree by itself and then feed him rice cereal afterwards, maybe he didn't like the combination?

A beautiful day

I was realizing that with me being sick this week Nathan and I haven't been outdoors since Tuesday, so today (Saturday) while the weather was so beautiful we played outside with the dogs.

Nate and Goldie

There was never a better pair. We said it from the get-go that Goldie would be the perfect dog for our kid and we were right. Nathan lights up when he sees the dogs but Goldie actually lets him "pet" her and is so patient with him. We are working on being gentle when we pet the animals, and still have to be monitoring them since Nathan pulls and grabs. But Goldie still loves him!

She is even training him to pick up her ball, pretty soon he will be the one entertaining her!

Bathtime!

So I've been feeling sick and while Nate isn't sleeping through the night, very tired. We believe its a combination of the 6 month growth spurt and teething. James offered to help out and take a few things off my plate in the evenings. So he gets up to check on Nate in the middle of the night if he wakes up, and that helps me out. Plus I showed him how to give Nate a bath.

They are so cute interacting with each other and its funny to see James react to the things that Nate does during the bath. For instance, he loves to remove the froggy washcloth that covers his bottom area and chews on it. Even if you give him another washcloth, he always ends up uncovering himself and then a little fountain will follow! Oh, and he loves to splash. I try to remove everything off the counter while getting the bath ready, and now James knows why :-)

Here are my sweet guys after bath time - I love the little towels
they make look like animals. This one in the picture is a sheep, go figure!

Eating with spoon!

Okay, the past week and half my sweet little boy has been not sleeping though the night. In fact I have had to feed him in the middle of the night several times. After much deliberation we decided to try introducing him to solid foods. Baby rice cereal is the recommended first step. So we bought some, and some baby spoons.
The result was surprising...he actually ate from the spoon on the first go around and grunted for more.
I guess he is ready, I was kind of expecting him to not understand what to do and have to try again, but not Nathan! He is already growing up so fast!

James held him and his arms, he kept trying to grab the bowl or the spoon from my hand. We fed him last night in what would have been his last feeding before going to sleep. Then I nursed him - which he was out within minutes - highly unusual and didn't even wake when I accidentally kicked the door stepping over the dogs waiting outside.

I would love to report that he didn't waken until this morning, but alas we still had another nursing session at midnight. But I know this is a step in the right direction. Baby food here we come!

An exciting First Christmas!

So Nathan's first Christmas went great! He had lots of loving from all his family and he enjoyed every moment of it! He got lots of great books and some fun, interactive toys to play with. We spent Christmas eve night at his Great Aunt Anne's where he got a chance to meet and be loved on by his great aunts and uncles and cousins.

Then Christmas day we headed off to Gigi and Grandpa's house to open presents and see what Santa left in our stockings!
